Making the Most out of Your Care Plan

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! You're taking a wonderful step to getting your health on track!

You've seen the care plan, and it's a big commitment in many ways, so we want to make sure to give you the tools (beyond the adjustment itself, of course) to get the absolute most out of your care plan! Follow these easy steps, and you'll find yourself feeling healthier than you have in a long time!

1. DON'T MISS ANY APPOINTMENTS

This is, by far, the absolute most important factor in getting the most out of your care plan! This doesn't mean that you can't move the times around, and perhaps even the day. But if we recommend 3 times a week, please make sure to find 3 times each week to make it into CFC! The frequency with which care is delivered makes a HUGE difference in your progress! It's always easy to think about it in terms of working out: If you were to go to the gym once a week for a year, would that yield even close to the results of going to the gym 3 times a week for a year? Of course not. So it's just the same, if not even more true, when we are talking about making changes in your nervous system. Chances are that your nervous system has been hard-wired in this stressful state (causing it to express the symptoms it is now) for a very long time, so it's simply going to take time to undo that damage. Give us time- together, we can make it happen!

2. KEEP YOUR BODY MOVING

We're not telling you you need to begin training for a marathon or become a crossfit junkie tonight. But with your adjustment, we have freed up the restriction in movement that existed in your spine. If you go home and plant yourself on the couch (some of our patients do this because they're afraid to "undo the adjustment"), you actually put it back into that state of limited mobility. Perhaps go for a walk or even just stay up and moving to clean the house or chase your kids around post-adjustment. Keeping your body moving after an adjustment will re-train your joints on what proper motion is actually supposed to be like.

3. DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER

Your adjustment is affecting your nervous system, right? That's what we talk about all the time. And when you flip the switch for your nervous system into the "on" position, it's going to probably realize that it needs to detox some of the stress (of all kinds) from your system. Help it out by flushing your system out with water to move that detox process along.

4. ICE IS NICE

While it's not common, some patients do get sore following their adjustment. All that's happening here is as if you go to the gym for the first time in a long time- your body is making changes when we adjust it, and soreness is your body's way of telling you it's changing. If you are one of those few who do get sore, it's OK! Just put some ice on the area that feels sore. We recommend 15 minutes on, and at least an hour off for as many rounds as you would like.

5. COMMUNICATION IS KEY

We love to know the changes that are going on in your body. Some changes are subtle, some are profound; some are expected, and some seem completely unrelated. But it's always so amazing to see the power that your body has with a fully-functioning nervous system! If you notice any changes in your body as you progress through care, please share it with us during your visits!

6. CONSIDER NOW TO START MAKING OTHER HEALTHY CHANGES FOR YOUR LIFE

Forget waiting until New Year's Resolutions. NOW is the time to make healthy changes. As we have talked about before, your body is expressing symptoms because of the stressors it is exposed to (and because your body is unable to adapt to them). So if you're already making the time to make changes in your nervous system by getting adjusted, why not also commit to making other changes which will only make for an even BIGGER impact on your system!

Your family's health is our priority! If you have any questions about any changes in your body, your care plan, or our office, please e-mail us at hello@cfchirova.com or call us at (540) 591-3535!
