THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
Most people think that chiropractors work only with the spine. While this understanding isn't wrong, it's really not the whole picture. That'd be like saying that a gardener is only concerned with the stem of a plant. But we know that there is much more involved in gardening- the sunshine the plant is getting, the nutrients of the soil it is planted in, the condition of the root system...we could go on, but you get the point! So back to chiropractic: at the very foundation of the function of your body is THE NERVOUS SYSTEM. Because we all know that the brain controls the entire body, and the nervous system is the means of communication between the brain and the rest of the body, we know that it's THE key piece to all function throughout your entire body. While many health care models aim to address the symptoms, chiropractic aims to address the cause of the symptoms, which often lies within a dysfunctional nervous system. What happens when you do this? Not only can we make the symptoms go away, but we correct the problem so it stops coming back! That's what we call healthcare, not sickcare.
The chiropractic adjustment is the most important service we provide at Chernichky Family Chiropractic. When there is a misalignment, or subluxation, in your spine, it allows for irritation in the nervous system. This irritation is how you see manifestations of symptoms- whether it be pain, decreased immune function, ear infections, or any number of things. These symptoms can be addressed at the symptom level, but until we address the function of the nervous system- the root of the problem- you will continue to need to correct the symptoms. How great would this life be if we no longer had to address symptoms? Our adjustments are how we correct the subluxation which is causing irritation on the nervous system.
We have many different techniques we are trained and specialized in. You will find that each adjustment will be a combination of multiple different techniques, based on the how your body responds to the adjustment. Some of our key techniques are:
Webster is a specialized technique used on all pregnant patients in our office. Its aim is to ensure proper pelvic alignment as well as release any muscular and ligamentous tension that may be restricting proper pelvic and fetal positioning and movement.
PALMER PACKAGE: DIVERSIFIED, GONSTEAD, THOMPSON DROP, and TOGGLE RECOIL
Each of these techniques is unique in its own right, but what we have found is that each person requires a nice mix of 2-3 of these techniques during each adjustment.
All the other techniques we use deliver the adjustment with our hands. Activator is a specialized technique using a tool called an "activator" to perform the adjustment instead of using our hands. There are various reasons we might choose to use the activator instead of our hands for the adjustment, but we find that many people who may be concerned/uncomfortable by the "popping" sound that often comes with an adjustment tend to like activator adjustments much more.
Myofascial release addresses the soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, and tendons) surrounding the joint, as opposed to the bone positioning. When the bone is subluxated, it causes the surrounding soft tissues to pull unevenly in one direction or another. This is why pain is often described as a feeling of "tightness" in the same area where we find those subluxations. While many subluxations can be addressed with just the adjustment, some many have such chronic conditions that the soft tissue will also need to be addressed in order to allow the adjustment to take full effect.
Logan applies a light pressure in the ligaments supporting your sacrum to allow the muscles of this region (affectionately known as "the foundation of your spine") to relax and support your spine properly.
If you have been to a chiropractor before and have a preference on your style of adjustment, please let us know! Every chiropractor is different, but we want to do everything we can to ensure that you can relax, enjoy, and fully benefit from your adjustment!
Often, the joy of having multiple family members under any sort of health care is also associated with the burden of a large bill. But at Chernichky Family Chiropractic, we are dedicated to making sure that your entire family can achieve and maintain true health with our family wellness plans. Each plan is individualized based on the needs of the family, and your doctor will discuss your options during your Report of Findings visit (your 2nd appointment).
